Colorado Winters are cold and summers are hot so having a properly insulated home can save you big dollars on your heating and cooling costs. The cost of heating and cooling our homes continues to rise so finding a solution that will reduce your utilities is a great way to save money and help the environment.
Our Colorado winters look beautiful and it isn’t hard to find a nice picture of snow on the trees and roof tops, icicles hanging from the eaves and smoke pouring from the chimney. Although these make great pictures for your album it might be a sign that your attic insulation isn’t working as well as it should. When the weather is cold outside and the snow on your rooftop shouldn’t be melting yet but you have icicles hanging means that the snow closes to the rooftop is starting to melt just enough that it drips down to the eaves and forms an icicle as it refreezes.
This can be corrected fairly easily by improving the insulation in your attic. Depending on the degree of heat loss that you have in your attic it could be as simple as adding a little more insulation, renting a blown in insulation machine or hiring an insulation contractor to do it for you. There are a few different types of insulation to choose from but among the best are spray foam insulation and blown in insulation because they cover more area and leave less gaps for the heat to escape. Both do require some knowledge and skill with the installation process. You’ll need to make sure you don’t cover up any vents and that you have flashing installed around these fixtures.
If you are unsure what and how to install insulation, an insulation specialist can help guide you through the best solution for your situation.
